From the earliest known portrait of Jefferson by the American artist Mather Brown. Brown spent his career in England. This image is from from a sitting that took place during Jefferson's visit to London in 1786, one year into his tenure as the American ambassador to France.
This original portrait, painted in 2011, is 8 inches by 10 inches - oil on wood panel.
