This painting was based on a Mathew Brady photograph dated April 1865 taken just days after the surrender at Appomattox. This was one in a series of photographs Brady made of Lee wearing the uniform he had worn at Appomattox.
This original portrait, painted in 2011, is 8 inches by 10 inches - oil on wood panel.
